Position Title - Lead Archivist

Supervisor Title (All entry and mid-level position supervisors should be qualified, professional archivists.) - Kimberly Peach

Position Type - Full-time, term

Benefits - Yes

Salary Range - $56,000 - $65,000


The Winthrop Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Lead Archivist to supervise a team on a large-scale project at a university to prepare archival collections for transfer to an off-site storage facility. This full-time, salaried, contract position is located in New York, New York and will run from December 2021 through April 30, 2022. There is a possibility of contract extension beyond the initial project duration.

Key Responsibilities

Archival description and re-housing

Assess and inventory a range of analog archival resources and formats

Enter data into ArchivesSpace at the collection and container level

Safely handle and rehouse archival records according to established guidelines

Perform regular quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy of work completed

Identify materials requiring conservation treatment and/or specialized housing

Project management

Schedule appropriate goals/deadlines and prioritize workloads for a team of Winthrop archivists and archive technicians

Analyze and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of work

Communicate and document work plans, processes, and procedures

Improve efficiency (as needed) while adapting to variations in collections and time requirements

Write brief monthly progress updates

Collaborate with Winthrop senior management to address any operational or personnel issues

Required Qualifications

MLS/MLIS with a concentration in archives or other graduate degree with certificate in archival studies or ACA certification

3-5 years of professional level archives work

1+ year of supervisory experience

Proficiency in ArchivesSpace and Microsoft Excel

Demonstrated knowledge of DACS and other standards and structures

Experience with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival and manuscript collections

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Winthrop team and client staff

Ability to lift boxes weighing 40 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing large-scale baseline processing project and/or or collection moves

Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and efficiency with a large-scale archival project

Familiarity working with audiovisual collections and/or oversize materials

Work Environment
