Position Title - Registrar

Supervisor Title (All entry and mid-level position supervisors should be qualified, professional archivists.) - Collections Manager

Position Type - Part-time, permanent

Hourly wage range - $36 - $40

Education and Experience:

● Graduate degree in Museum Studies, Art History, History, or Library Science

● Knowledge of material culture and accepted standards and practices for storage, conservation, and handling of paper documents

● Basic knowledge of, and experience with, current practices and innovations in museum collections management

● Computer proficiency on Mac OS and experience with a variety collections management databases; knowledge of TMS collections management system preferred but not required

● Well-organized, methodical, detail-oriented, able to work independently and cooperatively

● Ability to organize, prioritize duties, and create a workflow

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Data entry and cataloguing of Poster House collection posters in the database, TMS (approx. 100 entries per day), with appropriate tagging and key words

● Assist the Collections Manager with the shipping and receiving of artwork for the permanent collection

● Oversee regular photo shoots of collection objects with a professional photographer and art handler

● Receive images from Collection Manager to upload in database

● Assist Collections Manager in the intake and evaluation of works for rotating exhibitions, including help with creating exhibition condition reports and checklists

● Participate in acquisitions committee meetings

● Catalogue and add new titles to the library database

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

● Tasks essential to the job include:

○ Handling and moving posters from flat files onto a vertical magnetic surface for photography sessions.

○ Unboxing large posters and handling frames to assess condition.

○ Using a computer for data entry and basic communication functions

● Lifting packages and objects up to 50lbs and handling delicate art work with care.

Location and Hours:

The Registrar is a part-time position located at Poster House 119 W 23rd Street, New York, NY

10011. This role works on site at the museum during both closed and public open hours.

COVID Vaccination Policy:

In accordance with Poster House’s duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, we are adopting this policy to safeguard the health of our employees and their families; our customers and visitors; and the community at large from infectious diseases, such as COVID-19 or influenza, that may be reduced by vaccinations. This policy will comply with all applicable laws and is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health authorities, as applicable.

Poster House mandates that all staffers who work on site at the museum are vaccinated in an effort to protect the health and safety of both our staff and our visitors. Poster House provides 4 hours of PTO in order to receive the vaccination and can assist in making an appointment, or staffers can make their own appointment online. New employees must have at least 1 dose of the vaccine by their start date with Poster House, and will be required to show proof of vaccination by showing their physical vaccination card, or using the Excelsior Pass or other government sanctioned vaccine app. All vaccine related information will be kept private under HIPAA regulations by Poster House and its employees.

If employees have a qualifying medical exemption or sincerely held religious belief that prevents them from getting that vaccine, they should request a Reasonable Accommodation Form from the Museum Director, which will be reviewed by the Director as well as HR representatives at

ADP. Employees may be required to substantiate their request for exemption with the appropriate documentation. Staff will not be subject to discrimination or retaliation based on their vaccination status.

Those who are unvaccinated will not be able to come to the museum in person without submitting to additional testing, masking, and other precautions including being placed on unpaid leave until further determinations can be made.
