The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum

The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum seeks a qualified information professional to join the archives team. Reporting to the Head of Archives, this position is primarily focused on the management and assessment of digital assets, establishing digital preservation workflows, and planning for the rehousing of our physical archival collections in preparation for the archives’ move to a new site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include scanning and uploading new archival assets to The Noguchi Museum’s archival database/DAMS, researching the existing materials found within the archival database, as well as preparing materials for ingest into our digital preservation system. The position also involves data entry, cataloguing, and drafting descriptive metadata for audio/visual assets.

Work will be performed with the aid of the following software: CollectiveAccess, TMS, Excel/Google Sheets, Adobe Photoshop and Bridge, Bagger/BagIt, and potentially some audio and video editing with Premiere.

Experience, Skills, and Qualities

Advanced degree in Information or Library Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Ideally a minimum of 2 years of professional experience working in an archive)

Demonstrated knowledge of audiovisual and digital archives, including preservation of analog and born-digital formats, and digital imaging best practices

Strong knowledge of and experience applying metadata standards such as EAD, DACS, and VRA Core

Knowledge of controlled vocabularies and standards

Experience working with vendors for archival digitization, IT, and storage

Working knowledge of photo/video equipment and scanning/digitization workflows

Familiarity with command-line based digital preservation programs and shell scripting within a macOS/UNIX environment

Background and/or interest in modern art and art history

Experience with digital preservation software and video editing is a plus

Working knowledge of CollectiveAccess is highly desirable

The timing for the position is flexible, but an early to mid October 2022 start is ideal.

Compensation

The position is 20 hours per week at an hourly pay rate of $30. Part-time employees also receive pre-tax commuter benefits, as well as paid time off based on tenure, starting with three days per year. Employees also receive accrued paid sick days and employee discounts on merchandise for sale at the Museum, among other benefits.

Work is typically performed in an office environment; prolonged periods of sitting, use of computers and standard office equipment required to accomplish work objectives. Currently, the Museum is operating on a hybrid work model as it continues to assess the ongoing risk and impact of COVID-19.
