Each year, the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (ART) presents awards during New York Archives Week to recognize the work of archivists and those who support archival programs. Below are this year’s award recipients:
Winner: The Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network (DPOE-N)
The Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network (DPOE-N) is recognized for its ongoing commitment to advancing digital preservation education and professional development across the United States. Created by the Library of Congress in 2010 and now supported by Pratt Institute and NYU, DPOE-N provides training, workshops, and microgrants that empower librarians, archivists, and museum professionals to strengthen digital preservation practices. Through its programs, cultural heritage professionals gain technical skills, professional certifications, and resources that improve the stewardship of digital collections. DPOE-N’s support ensures that archives, libraries, and museums nationwide can safeguard their collections and continue to serve their communities effectively.
Winner: Kristine Allegretti, Alice Austen House
Kristine Allegretti is honored for her leadership of the Digital Collection Organization and Accessibility Project at the Alice Austen House, which reunites and reinterprets Alice Austen’s photographic archive while ensuring unprecedented public access. Under Kristine’s direction, nearly 7,000 negatives, glass plates, and prints have been repatriated to their historic home and integrated into a unified digital archive with updated metadata that reflects Austen’s identity and legacy. Her work transforms a static collection into a living cultural resource, expanding access for researchers, students, and the public, while inspiring exhibitions, educational programs, and ongoing community engagement.
Winner: Natalie Milbrodt, CUNY
Natalie Milbrodt, CUNY’s University Archivist, is recognized for her exceptional leadership and contributions to the archives community. From her first days in this newly created role, she inspired confidence through her combination of expertise, sincerity, and compassion. Beyond her assigned responsibilities, Natalie has guided the CUNY consortia of archives toward greater organization and functionality, while also taking on critical safety work to address mold concerns across the system. Her efforts with the Queens Memory Project and her teaching of the next generation of librarians further exemplify her impact, and her guidance has strengthened both collections and archivists alike across CUNY.
Winner: The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators & Schools, Educator Summer Residency
The New York Public Library’s Center for Educators & Schools is recognized for its Educator Summer Residency, a program that transforms archival collections into powerful tools for teaching and learning. Each year, the Residency brings together high school teachers from across the country to engage directly with NYPL’s special collections through timely and thought-provoking themes. In 2025, “Mother Tongues” guided educators through archives that explored the intersections of language, culture, and identity. The program not only equips teachers with the confidence and resources to bring underrepresented histories into their classrooms, but also fosters a lasting community of educators inspired to make learning more inclusive, relevant, and creative.
Winner: Bridget O'Keefe, Museum of Modern Art and ART’s Programming Committee
This year’s recipient, Bridget O'Keefe, has been an invaluable member of the Programming Committee since joining last year, bringing creativity, organization, and an extraordinary spirit of collaboration to everything she does. She has taken the lead on numerous tours and events across the city, helping strengthen A.R.T.’s presence in the GLAM community and beyond. Bridget’s ability to connect people, make introductions, and step in wherever help is needed has made her an indispensable part of the team. Her initiative and dedication have been key to the success of A.R.T.’s programming this year.
