Call for Submissions: Metropolitan Archivist, Winter 2027

Friday, August 21, 2026 8:55 AM | Nicole Font (Administrator)

The Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York (A.R.T.) welcomes contributions for the Winter 2027 issue of the Metropolitan Archivist, A.R.T.’s online digital publication featuring articles, reviews, interviews, and collection spotlights: https://medium.com/metropolitan-archivist

The forthcoming issue of the Metropolitan Archivist is organized around the theme How do you House? – a contemplation of archival housing, housing archives (domestic labor, tenant organizing, and housing history), archive houses (historic homes and repositories), and other archival considerations of housing, house and home.

We want to hear about intuitive and standards-based archival enclosures; conserving a house and processing materials in situ; how archives shape notions of home; and how archivists are responding to the cost and/or lack of housing (physical and virtual) in the New York metropolitan area. Visual essays and experimental submissions are welcome.

We also seek reviewers for New York-area museum and gallery exhibitions (see below). Additional suggestions welcome, particularly those which relate to this issue’s theme.

Please submit pitches by Monday, September 14th for consideration. Selected authors will be notified by Wednesday, September 16th, and final drafts with cleared images permissions are due by Friday, October 17th. Authors will then receive feedback from our team of editors, with time for edits if necessary, and can expect to see their articles published by mid-January 2027.

Please contact David Walker, Director of Publications, with any questions or concerns: metropolitanarchivist@nycarchivists.org.
