Archives Week 2017 -- Tour The Players Gothic Revival Mansion, Library, Meeting Places, and Archives
The Players was founded in 1888 by Edwin Booth, Mark Twain, and other celebrated artists and patrons of the arts. The event includes a detailed tour of the entire clubhouse modeled after a palazzo in Venice and designed by Stanford White, a special look into the library, a look at some of The Players' archives, Edwin Booth's Room, portraits of Edwardian and Victorian actors, portraits of famous past and current members, the small room where Actors' Equity was formed and the ephemera and artifacts of a life in theatre as it was in the 19th century as well as it is today.
Because it is a private clubhouse, The Players requires a list of names who are expected to attend.
After the tour, ATAP members are welcome to come down to The Players Grill for a bite to eat, a glass or two and lively conversation. You are encouraged to open The Players website for a brief but revealing overview.
