Conference: Creating Order Out of Chaos: Archiving and Records Management for
Non-Professionals

Date: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 6p.m. - 8:30p.m.

The Interchurch Center is conducting an all-day Conference (April 23, 2013)  on archiving and records management designed for staff members and volunteers of local churches, community and cultural organizations who are responsible for their organization’s historical material but have little or no knowledge of archival practices.  All sessions will be conducted by professional archivists.  Participating institutions include: Columbia University, General Theological Seminary, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, and United Methodist Archives. Topics to be covered include: what to keep/what not to keep, preservation, outreach, exhibits and artifacts, oral history, and funding.  A shared past helps to create a sense of community and identity and is a way to demonstrate that one’s organization plays a vital and active role in community life.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
