Using the Archivists' Toolkit in Archives and Special Collections

  • Friday, March 08, 2013
  • 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • METRO Training Center 57 East 11th Street, 4th Floor New York, NY 10003

This event is co-sponsored by METRO and the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York.

Please note: Because this workshop is being offered at a discounted price of $20 through funding from METRO's Keeping Collection program and the New York State Archives Documentary Heritage Program, an application is required. Please see below for more details and for the application form.

Join us for this full-day workshop on the Archivists' Toolkit (AT), an open source application developed for tracking and describing special collections. Learn the many advantages and added functionalities of using the AT in your work. The AT incorporates integrated modules for accessioning, description, name and subject authority control, and location management and also provides customizable reports and standardized description exports such as EAD, MARCXML, and METS.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Creating accession records
  • Creating multi-level description records
  • Linking descriptions to authority records and locations
  • Generating EAD finding aids

Since this workshop is being offered at a reduced price through special grant funding to support local collecting institutions, registration preference will be given to those currently working in not-for-profit organizations that hold, collect, and make available the state's historical records. Also, only one representative from each applicant institution will be admitted, so please coordinate applications accordingly. Non-practitioners are welcome to apply, but will only be added to the registration list as space is available.

METRO will contact accepted applicants by March 1, 2013 and further registration and payment details will be provided at that time.

To apply, please complete our online application form.
