The Archives Education Institute is sponsored by the Archivists Round Table in partnership with the Association of Teachers of Social Studies/United Federation of Teachers (ATSS/UFT) and the National Archives at New York City (NARA-NYC). This year's event will be held on October 13, 2012, focusing on the theme of Transportation in New York. The event will be hosted at NARA-NYC's new home at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, a National Landmark located at 1 Bowling Green in Lower Manhattan.
Christopher Zarr, Education Specialist at NARA-NYC, will lead a panel session with guest speakers. Following a complimentary lunch and tour, archivists will have an opportunity to present selected items from their collections, which will be incorporated into a collaborative exercise to create K-12 lesson plans for the teachers to bring back into the classroom.
At the conclusion of the event, certificates will be awarded to all participants, which may be eligible, pending final confirmation from the Academy of Certified Archivists, for Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs), as well as professional development hours for teachers and educators.
With generous support from MetLife, this year's AEI is offered as a free program with registration open to all K-12 teachers and area archivists working in metropolitan New York.
